"Come Sit A Spell"

There is gold on Lookout Mountain.  The gold is what you feel in your heart.  It's in the smiling faces  and  the glow of campfires. The gold is the result of following a dream.

The history of camping in Northeast Alabama. Every person who has ever visited these camp sites will find something special in this book.

Readers say "I was there." "I did  that." "Is that  why he  built it?" "I always wondered how he managed to come up with  so much property." "Where'd he get all the money." "He must have been born rich." Today's adults show the pictures to their children and say  "That's where I spent the  summer of 1950 (or  any   other year)"

A book about the life, tragedies,  failures, and successes of Jack Jones, owner of the most popular camping facility in  the South. Eighty years of camping and story-telling.

The story of a man who has led a totally unbelievable, but true, life. Jack Jones has danced with snakes,  flown his own planes,, raced ocean-going boats, built golf courses,  and  built the southernmost ski  resort in the United States.

Snakes  would swim toward you. I'd grab them by their tail, swing them around over my head  and drop 'em on the  shore. Even  poisonous water moccasins. My friend, Ross  Allen, would  pick up  the snakes, open   their mouths and place their fangs over a glass vial to milk them for their venom.

I'd dress  like an Indian, wash  the snakes with alcohol,   then put  them in my mouth and  dance. When they weren't lively enough to put on a good show, I'd bite them. Of course they'd bite back putting blood spots all over my face. I don't understand why people claim I was crazy. After all, I didn't use poisonous snakes.

We  became  an investor in the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. Trouble struck.

Thirty years ago, I just knew I'd be famous by producing a movie. I didn't  know he was a crook.  Later they caught him in somewhere in Australia & put him in jail on a petty burglary charge.

When the War ended I wanted my life time dream, Cloudmont.

Back in 1954 my daughters came to me and  asked, "Daddy,   when are  we  going to  have our own camp?"  After searching all over I found  several properties  and borrowed $25,000  plus some more for equipment. We named  it Valley View Ranch.

Over  the years, I kept adding equipment and buildings.
